I recently posted on Facebook that I would be accepting family commissions moving forward into 2019. Some of my photographer friends asked me (genuinely) if I had lost my mind. And the answer is no – I have not lost my mind. But I have decided that this is something I truly enjoy, and I want to make it accessible for more people. I feel like in the world of Instagram styling and Pinterest perfection, some of my clients feel like if they can’t have a flawless family portrait, that maybe they shouldn’t do them at all. And that makes me really sad. I don’t specialize in the traditional Las Vegas family photos that you might be picturing – think Sears or JC Penney – we won’t be in a studio and I won’t make everyone cheese for the camera. But we will play some fun games or crack jokes or run around in the desert for an hour (disclaimer: you don’t have to actually run if you don’t want to). And we will definitely get some great images that represent your family as they are right now. At this very moment. The moment that will be gone tomorrow.

I think that photographing families can be really scary for some Las Vegas photographers. I know that before I had two boys of my own, I had no idea how to talk to kids or be silly with kids or get teenagers to stop rolling their eyes. Actually, I still don’t know how to do that – because teenagers have been rolling their eyes since the dawn of time, and I definitely haven’t figured out how to stop them from doing that. But, I can make them agree that while it’s not necessarily their idea of a rockin’ good time, that their parents will reallllyyyyyy appreciate these photos, and that someday, they will, too.

My boys are currently one and six, and if I could freeze time, I would. It’s not that I want to go BACK (spit up and sleep deprivation, anyone??) – it’s just that I want to be able to really remember them as they are in each stage. And everyone assumes that I must have a million photos of them. And I do! But truth be told, they’re on my iPhone – just like you. And while I love those candid moments, they tend to be shot in a dark room while they chase each other around with swords way past bedtime, or a dark restaurant while they cram non-organic mac and cheese in their sweet squishy faces. Gasp – the horror.

I am seeing a movement towards reconnecting with what’s real – authentic – more honest representations of our lives. We don’t have to pretend to be something we aren’t. It is really okay to show up – just as we are. And that includes in our yearly family portraits. It’s fine if one or more kids walk off set – in fact, this has happened on every session I’ve ever done! They usually play for a few minutes and then can be coaxed to come back and join us. Sometimes the little ones simply aren’t having it, and I’ll document that, too. Our homes aren’t always spotless or “company ready.” My boys do not have matching outfits – unless you count Hot Wheels pajamas that they outgrew in less than 60 days and now their little tummies poke out of the bottom of the shirts. Their hands are usually sticky – their faces are always just a little bit dirty. But damn if they don’t squeeze me like there’s no tomorrow. Those little hands wrapped around me mean the entire world to me and then some. I am their world, and they are mine. And I don’t ever want to forget that.

So let them bring Hot Wheels, or LEGOs, or naked barbies or whatever floats their little boats this season. It’s your turn! Those little ones aren’t getting any littler (is littler even a word??). I would be honored to capture your family as they are today – even if you think the wildness of the kiddos might scare me off. I assure you that it won’t. I’m not expecting perfectly behaved angels or on-command smiles. I want you to come out and play and let the magic unfold. And then promise me that you’ll print a few and hang them up at home. Because apparently, I’ve been told, they’ll be getting girlfriends soon and then driving actual cars and then moving IN with those girlfriends and they won’t want to hang out with mom anymore. Gasp again. The legitimate horror. Say it isn’t so.

But until then, we can freeze time, if only for a little while. Now excuse me while I book my OWN session for this year with a Las Vegas family photographer – before my six-year-old moves in with his girlfriend. Click below to tell me all about your family and your photo shoot dreams!

PS If you need holiday cards, call me – but don’t wait! My turn time is unmatched and we can totally make it happen!

I asked for silly faces, and this is what I got! 🤣 Jonathan and Diana didn’t want their photos to be “too serious” and they delivered! We all know that I LOVE a good Neon Museum wedding. This is what can be accomplished there in just an hour, if you can believe it. Ceremony, photo shoot, lots of shenanigans. Wash, rinse, repeat. This place is magical. ✨✨✨

* one hour elopements are only available on a case by case basis depending on scheduling and workload *

Dan and Harriet got married here in Las Vegas last year, and I had the honor of being their witness and photographer for the afternoon! Harriet runs a wedding blog in the UK and she asked me if she could post a recap of their wedding day on her site and what their experience was like – and of course, I said, “Yes, please!”

I feel that it’s so important to hear from previous clients firsthand and get a sense for what their day was like and how things unfolded. For many (many!) of our Las Vegas elopements, I may be the only witness or guest at your ceremony (and I might even sign your marriage license!), and I may be the only person with you for the remainder of the afternoon. It’s crucial that we click (📸 – haha – yep – pun intended!), so that we can capture you and your partner feeling like yourselves so that we get the most natural (and fun!) images possible!

Harriet first found me on Rock n Roll Bride, another popular wedding website based in the UK – and she liked that I offer a two hour wedding option – rather than feeling like she needed to book someone for several hours! And it’s confession time – I think 95% of my clients end up with a Two Hour Collection, sometimes adding travel time – but most clients don’t need more than that! Read more about her feelings about the day in the link above – and enjoy a few images from their wedding day!

You know the drill – click below and tell me about your vision. Let’s make sure we click. 📷 And let’s make an afternoon to remember! 🍾

Las Vegas Elopement - Desert Vibes

Desert elopements have been gaining popularity over the last few years, and with damn good reason. There’s just something special about spending time in this place with the one you love, and the vibe here can be so magical. Just look at the pretty light Jamie and Patsy had on their wedding day. We only had about 15 minutes on the lakebed until it was time to head to their ceremony and we got about a million great shots out there! You don’t have to spend hours taking pictures to end up with the shots you want. My 2 Hour Collection is usually just enough time for an elopement! 😍

Eloping for your Las Vegas wedding can be both a relief, and somehow stressful at the same time! Weddings, whether large or small, intimate or elaborate, tend to cause stress for even the coolest brideCHILLA! Vegas weddings can be easier and quicker than a traditional wedding back home, but there are still factors to consider. You’ll need:

– A marriage license – and you can even pre-register for your Las Vegas marriage license ahead of time.

– An officiant – I adore Angie from Peachy Keen Unions, and her ceremonies are so genuine – I cry all the time!!

– A witness – if you have guests, typically you can ask one of them to sign for you as witness to your union – and if not, I absolutely volunteer to be your witness!

– Each other – this is obvious, but I’m listing it anyway – ha!

– That’s it! Really! You don’t need flowers, or a cake, or even a fancy dress. You literally only need the items listed above.

Here’s Angie from Peachy Keen Unions giving my couple the scoop on their ceremony and how everything is going to go down, and running them through any last minute details before we get started. I love these moments of butterflies and excitement – they’re the last moments before you make it legal!

Writing your own vows can be so special. A lot of clients get super nervous about this part, but the truth is, just speak from the heart! Your partner knows you better than anyone, and they will cherish what you took the time to create and say to them. Only you know all those inside jokes, and those will be some of your favorite moments! Of course, if you just want to “repeat after me” (but not actually ME), you can totally do that, too!

Poof! Just like that, husband and wife! Those post kiss giggles are the best!

Kitty!!

Kitty (again)!

Tom and Keri tied the knot and then met me for a quickie photo session at the Neon Museum in the Main Collection. This space houses all of the restored signs and lights up fantastically just before sunset. When you book a photo shoot at the Neon Museum, you have the option to choose between the galleries. If you shoot me a message, I’ll be thrilled to provide you with 3 million examples from each space to help you decide which one best fits your vision.

Tom looks dashing with that bouquet…

This pastel corner has my heart – forever and ever.

The cover photo literally says it all! Tim and Rheanne traveled all the way from Canada to tie the knot here in Vegas, opting to head out to remote El Dorado and then have their ceremony officiated at the Neon Museum. Two of their dearest friends were in attendance, making this elopement the perfect size for them. The entire afternoon was filled with laughter and Rheanne’s beautiful smile! I had a really hard time choosing images for this post, so please enjoy about 4 million photos to follow… Oh, and let’s not forget to mention – her crop top wedding dress. #goals

El Dorado is about 45 minutes from the Strip, and well worth the drive if it fits into your timeline. I highly recommend either renting a car or hiring a car service. This is not somewhere you want to catch an Uber to (mostly because they probably won’t come back and pick you up – haha). It’s also super hot in the summertime, but if you promise to hydrate, I promise to let you cool off between shots. ♥

I’m not quite sure what she’s laughing at, but it’s probably Tim…

After a few more butt grabs, they headed to the Neon Museum for their ceremony. We ALLLLLLL know that this is my favorite spot, maybe in the whole wide world.

We did it!!

Now it’s your turn! I would be honored to help you design your perfect afternoon. I can help with location ideas, officiant recommendations, floral vendors – you name it. Eloping can be more complicated than you might think – so click below and tell me how I can un-complicate it for you guys! ♥

This session will go down in history as the session that almost didn’t happen. Almost. But that’s not exactly how I roll. The day that Lisa and Sam were married, they were supposed to meet one of my girls at the Neon Museum for a 30 minute quickie in the North Gallery, followed by a 30 minute downtown session. But the Ubers and cabs they hailed that afternoon had other ideas. We all know that even with the very best planning, things can happen that are beyond our control.

As their arrival time came and went, I called Lisa and she called me, and we texted frantically trying to get them from Planet Hollywood to the Museum on time. They left their hotel room an hour before session time to meet their first scheduled Uber, which never arrived. After two more tries with Uber they gave up and hailed a cab who then proceeded to drive them on the slowest possible route, straight up the Strip. After deciding that they would arrive well after the end time for their session, Lisa and Sam sadly turned back and headed to their hotel, with no session in sight.

She was in tears and I was heartbroken for her. However, we managed to work some crazy last minute magic and snag a midday session at the Museum the following day. Shout out to Courtney for helping us make it happen on such short notice!! After my morning wedding that day, I hustled on over to photograph them for all of 15 minutes in between appointments. But let me tell you, I could not possibly let them leave town without some beautiful images to commemorate their wedding trip!

Things happen. Life happens. And this was one of those times where so many things fell into place to allow me to make this happen for them, and it just thrills me to no end. I’m so glad I got the chance to meet you guys and make it work! Congrats again and we’ll see you back for an anniversary session someday soon! ❤️

Now it’s your turn! Hopefully you won’t have any travel mishaps, of course – but let’s create some beautiful images together! Click below to tell me all about your vision.

These two lovebirds have a beautiful story. But all you need to know is he way he looks at her. Honestly. The whole day. Just like that. Connie is a lucky woman and I’m quite sure she knows it! They tied the knot earlier in the day and met up with me at the Smith Center, which has this amazing sculpture by local artist Tim Bavington. I haven’t shot there as much lately because everyone wants the downtown murals (including me, if I’m honest haha). But we made their timeline work and I swear we hit all the highlights of classic Vegas, new and old. Keep your eyes peeled for his custom painted kicks… Vegas, baby!!

See those shoes? Custom painted as a gift from his bride.

She made this bouquet herself and brought it on the plane. I thought the blooms were real for half the session! This is why I’m the photographer and not the florist…

These two cuties traveled from Hong Kong to celebrate 20 years of marriage. They had a Queen-themed vow renewal at the Viva Las Vegas wedding chapel, complete with Freddie Mercury in a white tank top and four showgirls. Afterwards we traveled to the Neon Museum (which is basically my second home), and made our way through the main gallery – pretty much laughing the whole way. And that’s just one way to kick off the next 20 years.

So if your partner still slaps you playfully on the butt and then agrees to light up rings to celebrate 20 years, you’re probably doing something right. If you have a milestone coming up and you’d like to celebrate with a photo shoot – I’d be honored to help! Call me or click below! ❤️
